5 things I love about the NC.

5. We have a backyard. I've never had one before. Sure, my parents have always had one, and I've played in theirs. But I've never played in my very own yard. Nevermind that it's covered in poison ivy. We'll fix that.

4. There are trees. Everywhere. Just look at our backyard. And they're not small trees either. They're huge, and they make a big city look scenic.

3. We are approximately 2.5 hours from the beach. I haven't been to the beach yet, but we have a trip planned in a month or so. We hear it's the best beach in the continental United States, but we'll be the judge of that. Oh, and we're only four hours from Washington, D.C. We're headed there this weekend to celebrate the 4th with some good friends. God bless America.

2. Time moves slower. Okay, if I'm being completely honest, this drives me crazy. People show up 30 minutes late for church and 15 minutes late to service your HVAC, and when you take your car to the shop, it takes a week to get it back. But this is teaching me patience (something I'm notorious for lacking). And, really, who cares if you're on time? The folks here are relaxed, and that brings me to my next point.

1. The people here are genuinely nice. I think I've run into one grumpy person in the month I've been here. (And that was at the DMV, so can you really blame him?) I still haven't figured out what makes these people so happy, but I'll let you know when I figure it out.
