It's all in the family.

Story time. My mom, sister, and I decided to wander through an antiques mall in my hometown a few weeks ago. As we were walking up and down the aisles, my mom suddenly proclaimed, "Hey, I used to have that," and she pointed to the above piece of fine artwork. I assumed she meant, "I used to have something that looked just like that." But, no, she meant she had that exact picture of that funny looking owl dressed up as a baseball player.

I have no idea why my mom once decided she needed a picture of a baseball-playing owl. I've never known her to be particularly fond of owls—or baseball, for that matter. But my grandpa (her dad) was a picture framer, and my mom swore he framed it and gave it to her as a gift.

Well, I couldn't just take her word for it. I stood on my tiptoes and pulled the photo off the wall. And what do you know? It had my grandpa's logo on the back. So I did the most logical thing and bought it. I think Mr. Baseball Owl is going to look pretty nice hung on my wall.

What's the lesson here? Trust your mother? No, I think it's more like: My mom's belongings are now old enough to be considered antiques. What do you think, Mom?

  1. hahaha Love your last comment. At first I thought that was the tootsie roll pop owl. Brilliant! But still so darling. I wonder when our things will be considered antiques... yikes!

Hope you have a wonderful day!
